How are the sheepskins processed?
Texelana medicinally tanned furs are gently cleaned according to the strictest EU standards and are ecologically tanned. This preserves the active softening substance lanolin (wool fat) and the soft structure of the wool. The natural scent is also slightly present. No chemical dyes are used for these furs. The medicinal tanning makes the furs better protected against fungal growth.
The coat is shaved back to approx. 3 cm, which provides good pressure distribution. This also ensures that the coat tangles less quickly and can be brushed out easily. Medicinally tanned coats are not coloured or bleached. The coat gets its yellowish colour from the tanning method.
Pleasant lighting
The coat density of these coats is high, which helps retain body heat. This can help relieve muscle pain.
Medicinally tanned skins can help to slow down the development of pressure sores. The soft, moisture-regulating and warming medicinal sheepskin is also a solution for other discomforts caused by prolonged lying or sitting.
Gently washable at 30°C hand wash with a wool detergent. We recommend using Texelana Wool Detergent .
Washing instructions
Medicinal coats are (limitedly) washable, we advise to only wash the coat if strictly necessary!
- Hand wash at 30°C with Texelana® wool detergent (contains lanolin);
- After washing, rinse thoroughly with clean water;
- Add a generous dash of natural vinegar to the final rinse water. Leave the coat in this for 10-15 minutes (this prevents the leather from hardening);
- Let the coat dry at room temperature with the hairy side down, for example on a drying rack. Never in the dryer, and not on or near the heater or in full sun;
- During the drying process, regularly shape the leather so that it remains supple and does not curl up;
- After drying, comb the coat with a stiff brush, this will keep the sheepskin lambskin beautiful and wonderfully soft;
- After washing, the leather may become less supple and the hair stiffer. This is normal. Washing the coat is at your own risk.
Origin
Our sheepskins come from the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Sweden and Iceland and are tanned and processed in various tanneries in Europe, in accordance with EU guidelines.
