Maintenance

Wool is a nice material to make clothes from because it is antibacterial and odor-resistant. Wool clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside occasionally so that it can freshen up. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent . Never rub hard when hand washing, to prevent felting. Always check the label in the garment for the washing instructions. Always let wool clothing dry flat.

If you treat your wool garment in this way, it will not only stay nicer and last longer, but by airing instead of washing, you also save the environment.

Pills and fluff

Wool can pill or fluff through use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is mainly caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Friction can cause the wool to pill and felt. With felting, the hairs join together through friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will often find the fluff/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.

New clothing can sometimes still have some loose hairs left behind after the weaving and knitting process. Pilling and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing is unfortunately unavoidable. We have some tips to delay this process somewhat and how to remove the fluff and pills. For this information we refer you to our blog.
