Washing instructions
Wool is antibacterial and odour-resistant. Wool clothing therefore does not need to be washed often. Hang the garment outside to air occasionally and it will quickly freshen up again. If you do want to wash the garment, we recommend Texelana Wool Detergent .
Many of our woollen garments can be machine washed on a wool wash programme of up to 30°C. Always check the label in the garment for washing instructions and always dry woollen garments flat. Never rub hard when hand washing, to prevent felting.
If you treat your wool garment as described above, it will not only stay beautiful and last longer, you will also save the environment by airing it instead of washing it.
Storing woolen clothes
We recommend that you store your woolen clothing clean, possibly with a bag of lavender; this keeps the moths away. It is also best to store woolen clothing lying down, so that the elasticity of the wool is not affected.
Pills and fluff
Wool can pill or fluff through use. This has nothing to do with the quality of the wool. Pilling is a natural phenomenon that is mainly caused by friction. Wool consists of many hairs with a natural crimp (curls). Friction can cause the wool to pill and felt. With felting, the hairs join together through friction. In fact, every movement causes friction. You will often find the fluff/pills on the sleeves and under the armpits.
New clothing may sometimes still have some loose hairs left behind after the weaving and knitting process.
Pills and fluff on your beautiful (merino) wool clothing are unfortunately unavoidable. We have some tips to delay this process somewhat and how to remove the fluff and pills. For this information, we would like to refer you to our blog.
